The session notes tab allows you to view details of your play on a per session basis. General statistics about each session you've played are displayed, but far more helpful is the ability to filter by a given session, performing other analysis (from other tabs) on a specific session.
One way that this tab can be specifically helpful is in table selection. Identify the type of table from which you are making the most profit and seek out similar tables!
2.1.3.1 Session Summary Section
Displays high-level statistics about the average session sorted by level of play
Level: The limit or stakes played. This matches the corresponding data on the General tab.
Sessions: The number of sessions you have played at the given level.
Winning Sess.: The fraction and percentage of sessions in which you netted a positive return.
$ Won: The total amount in dollars that you have won .or lost at a given level. Negative numbers are enclosed in parenthesis, e.g. -$3.45 = ($3.45)
Hands: The number of hands played at the given level.
Hours: Total hours of play at the given level.
BB/Hr (Big Bets per Hour): Big Bets won per hour played at the given level. In no limit, a big bet is defined as two times the big blind.
BB/100 (Big Bets per 100 hands): Big Bets won per 100 hands played at the given level.
VP$IP (Voluntarily Put $$$ in Pot): Percentage of time that you chose to put money into the pot, either by calling or raising preflop, or by completing in the small blind. Money paid in the blinds (other than as noted) is not included in this calculation.
Avg. Pot: Average pot size for this level.
AP: The average number of players per hand for this level.
ASF: The average number of players seeing the flop for this level.
More Detail button: The more detail button provides additional detail in a time-based manner; that is, it breaks down your results (in BB/100) by time of day and day of the week (in two hour increments). Assuming you have a fairly consistent schedule, this can help to spot times when you are playing at your peak, as well as times that you should probably just avoid playing. Most of the statistics described above are shown again here. Clicking on a specific time will filter the statistics to show only the stats for that time range. Be careful to not be skewed by huge results – if you've only played one or two sessions at a given time, there can be very large numbers here.
2.1.3.2 Session Detail Section
The session detail section will display details about every session you have logged in Poker Tracker. It lists a number of valuable statistics for judging how you played during a given session. These statistics can be especially useful in helping to determine what type of a table is most profitable for you. Further, this section allows you to easily filter all other stats displayed in Poker Tracker to a single session by double-clicking on a session in the Session Detail section. This can be invaluable in trying to determine why a given session went badly (and likewise can help to rule out bad play if simple variance was at fault). Once you've filtered by the session you're interested in, use the details found in the general tab to analyze your play.
To choose your session and understand the overall detail of each session, a number of statistics are shown:
Start Time: time the session started
End Time: time the session ended
Site: site on which the session was played
Table: name of the table at which the session was played
Level: limit of a selected table; for no limit, the big blind is displayed after the letters NL
Seat: seat in which the player was seated
Mins (minutes): total amount of time spent in this session
$ Won: net profit from the session. Negative numbers are displayed in parenthesis - i.e. -5 is shown (5).
Hands: number of hands played in this session
BB/hr: number of Big Bets (for no limit, 2x the big blind) averaged per hour of play in this session
BB/100: number of Big Bets averaged per 100 hands of play in this session
VP$IP (Voluntarily Put $$$ in Pot): percentage of time during this session that you've chosen to put money in the pot when you were not in the blinds
Avg. Pot: average pot size for the session
AP (Average Players): average number of players at the table per hand during the session
ASF (Average Seeing Flop): average number of players who saw the flop per hand during the session
Ex. Rate: exchange rate – used for table on which the currency is not in US Dollars (to make the statistics correctly match the rest of your data)
Show Hourly Win Rate checkbox: attempts to calculate true hourly rates for multi-table players by combining coinciding data. This relies on having complete time information for all hands played in order to be accurate (and as such is site-dependent).
2.1.3.3 Notes on Specific Session
Enter notes about a specific session here.
2.1.3.4 Games Played During Specific Session
This section displays the hands played during the selected session. It can be useful in quick analysis (to avoid switching to the general tab, for instance). It displays the following information:
Total # of raked hands played in this session: appears at the top of the session, intended as an aid for calculating when bonuses will be reached; note that the count found on the game notes tab can be more useful for this purpose
Game #: the game number for the selected hand
Date played: date the hand was played
Level: limit at which the hand was played – no limit is listed as NL followed by the big blind amount
Table: table name
Flop/Flop/Flop/Turn/River: the community cards dealt to the table
